Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That company processes the request and supplies its results. McCormick County Criminal History does not keep or log those query terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained for the purpose of responding and maintaining the exchange. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, server logs may collect basic technical facts about that visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help compile broad traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, though blocking them may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Understanding which resources are useful and which need revision
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Operating the site and improving its speed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
McCormick County Criminal History does not own, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official custodians such as the McCormick County Sheriff's Office, local courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or profiles about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure rules govern any information submitted to those tools. Review the applicable provider's terms before sending a query because this policy does not control its systems.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to court portals, sheriff pages, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a reader leaves this site, the destination's privacy practices apply. Review them before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to track activity across websites for ad selection. Their systems control that processing.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data can be received by:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that serve content on these pages
- Analytics providers that measure performance and traffic
- Search partners that process a query submitted to their tool
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so the possibility of unauthorized access or a breach cannot be eliminated.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
South Carolina FOIA, S.C. Code Title 30, Chapter 4, governs records held by public bodies, while S.C. Code §30-2-50 restricts obtaining government-held personal information for commercial solicitation. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public agency. Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity checks, you may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of information associated with you
- Ask for correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request a copy of personal data we retain about you
